This work is based on a microbial encounter. Lactobacillus acidophilus was the starting point of a collaboration between the artist Maya Minder (ZHdK) and the biochemist Philip Rottmann (NCCR MSE). Both working with the same microorganism, one within wild fermentations and the other within gene modifications (GFP), joined together to produce fluoroscent kimchi in the lab as an metaphor of encounter btw two separate worlds played out in real.
It is part of the exchange programm from 2016-2017 btw artists and scientists of NCCR-MSE and the Zurich University of Arts.
