Kitchen Women Nation is an reenactment of the kitchen of Rumah Lifepatch, the place where I spent most of my time during the residency in Yogyakarta. The Replica served as a media kitchen for live cooking as well as a display for two videos produced in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Hospitality has similarities to a gift or barter. It is a code that functions as an alternative to a capitalist society and, beyond cultural mentality, is defined differently from household to household. In the clash of different cultures, hospitality is the one that carefully tries to build connections. Hospitality is always about giving and taking; one is careful not to hurt the other by giving or taking too much. As an unwritten cultural code of conduct, its rules are intuitive rather than theoretical.
